The Wino and I Know

My husband surprised me with wine! I love everything about wine. The bottles, the labels, cooking with it, how good it sounds to say you are going to relax with a bottle of wine. The thing I can't get used to is the taste, and that's kind of an important part of wine! So, Chuck went online and researched wine for virgin palettes like mine and this is what he came up with. The first one I tried was the Riesling. It was very sweet and smooth. Loved it. Next came the Pinot Grigio. I didn't like it at all! I'm so disappointed! I haven't tried the Syrah yet. I so want to find a couple that I like, I have new wine glasses! I don't want to resort to putting sweet tea in them and pretending! Also, Williams-Sonoma has this cool wine journal.
You use these neat laminate sheets to take off your label to put in the journal. I love this idea.

If anyone has any suggestions for a great wine (for a wimp like me) I would love to hear them!

  1. I love wine and we make our own wine most of the time. Depends on what kind you like. White or red? For me/us, we like a good Australian Chardonnay. Yellow Tail is a smooth brand (in any flavor, really). Reisling is too sweet for me, but some of them aren't bad. Try Yellow Tail. Good luck!

  2. I love Reisling! Syrah is very good, you might like it depending on if you like red, dry wines with a hint of sweetness. My favorite wine is Rosemount Estates Merlot (anything by Rosemount is amazing). Also try a Malbec, from Argentina, they are amazing!

  3. I love several Chardonnays from Austrailia. Little Penquin is reasonable. The only way you are going to find what you like is to try them. And that can get costly. Look around for a wine tasting. Lots of stores that sell wine (I don't know where you buy wine where you live) have tastings. Years ago Paul and I actually took a class at a local distributor who specializes in wines. They explained the labeling of the various countries which can be very confusing and gave us the opportunity to try many different wines. If you dine out at restaurants that let you eat at the bar often the bar tender will let you taste different bottles. You just have to keep trying until you find what you like!

  4. Hey Shauna- I love all of your posts. I am backtracking reading them all from this week, and your food always looks so yummy! You know I love wine, and I started with a Zinfandel. It's light, not too sweet, and not too tart either. Chardonnays are a bit dry for me, but everyone is different. Got to put those new glasses to good use! I love all of the labels, and told my husband that exploring all of the wines will be a future project for us.

    Happy tasting!

  5. Oh you have a new layout....I like. I wish I could be more help in the wine department. As many years that I worked in a fine dining industry you would think I developed a palate for it but I have not. I stick to Rieslings (wine for sissies like myself). I may not have a palate for it but I can up sale it go with a dish like there’s no tomorrow. They trained me well.

  7. Great idea! Funny I love the idea of relaxing with a glass of wine - but have not found one I like.... except for Sangria (is that even a wine?)
