Fall Touches

I've been trying to add a few touches of fall around the house. It's still pretty hot here so it's hard to get in the mood. I'm going to wait until October to do the outside. I got some really tall corn stalks from my aunts garden this year that will look good by the front porch.

As you can see, I didn't have four matching pumpkins.

I wanted to use these tall candle holders somehow, so I threw a couple of pumpkins on there!

I made Corn Chip Tacos for dinner. They were so good!

I just browned 1 1/2 pounds of ground beef, drained, added a can of tomato paste, some water to thin it out and salt and sugar to taste. The sugar takes the twang out of the paste. I usually add enough to also give it a sweet taste. I like sweet and savory. Layer the corn chips in your plate, top with meat, cheese, pico de gallo, letttuce and sour cream. Fast and delicious!

I have a question. I haven't been taking pictures long, I'm still learning as I go. I have a Canon Rebel XS. I take the picture, it looks great, but when I resize it usually 640 x427, then change the html code so that they look bigger they seem to pixelate or blur. I followed instructions for big pictures over @ Between Naps on the Porch. (Thanks Susan) Great tips, I just don't know what I'm doing wrong. I'm such a novice.

I'm off to bed. My husband started a new job that requires him to get up 2 and half hours earlier. Guess who gets to make the coffee?

  2. Hey, get yourself a coffee maker that has a built in clock. My hubby gets up very early and I set it up at night and the thing turns on a few minutes before his alarm...NICE!! He actually prefers having his alone time in the early morning. SUITS ME!!

Nice fall table and I like the mismatched pumpkins. Can't answer your question on the photography--I'll let the pros do that!(although I have my camera setting on the large picture format so when I put them on the blog I have to make them smaller not larger--perhaps that is your problemo)

  6. I never even thought to decorate my mantel for autumn. That & your table look great. I must get busy & put some things over my fireplace! Thanks for the push.

We do the same tacos with the corn chips because it is hard for some in our family to hold the taco shells without breaking & making a mess. Yours look yummy!

  8. Love the decorations. It's still hot where I am too so I really can't get into the spirit of decorating but I told my husband that they are going up October 1st whether it's hot or not.

  10. I love your fall table... Try not resizeing the pictures, but do change what Susan told you to do in her post and see if that helps...When you play with changing the size back and forth to much it will make a grainy

  18. Hi Shauna! Just visiting all the Thursday Tablescapes, but wanted to say beautiful post! Love your table and all your Fall decorations. Very inspiring to someone who is still in denial, in the "Great Northeast"! I really am not liking the chill in the air, and I'm just trying to savor every last minute of Summer we have left!.. Anyways, I particularly loved your fireplace mantel! Really CUTE with the jolly looking pumpkin face setting there! ~tina

  20. Love your fall look. I think it's so effective to see the pumpkins on the plate like that. It's cooling down here in TX finally, we are getting much needed rain (and thunder) today, probably only last 5 minutes, but it makes looking at fall tablescapes even nicer... feels cozy :-)

  21. Beautiful tables and fall decor. It's still warm here in Houston, I haven't gotten any fall things out yet...waiting for our first cool snap.

I have my camera set on the largest picture setting...and I also followed Susan's tips. Sometimes I choose not have the bigger pictures, just depends on my subject.

    Thanks for sharing.
