I've Created a Monster!

My son loves to take pictures. He's usually the one who reminds me to grab my camera. I told him when I got my new camera that he could have my point and shoot. He wanted nothing to do with it once he shot with the new one! Brat!

I've posted some pictures that he took that I thought were pretty neat. This one, to me, looks like he is turning the moon on with the remote. That's not how he described it, but I can't remember what he said. So, moon it is.

This is his Harry Potter book and wand.

Indiana Jones hat and whip. This is one of my favorites!

Our beloved cat Shug.

He took a break from splitting wood to take this one.

We like to take drives down dirt roads on the weekends and this is a barn we found on one of them.

Now if I could just put him to work to buy some cool new lenses!!

How Much is That Doggy in the Window?

How stinkin cute is that face? My mom is looking for a little dog and she originally had her heart set on a Pekingese. Now that she has been reading up on them she is not so sure. They seem to come with their fair share of health problems. So, I thought I would ask y'all! Are there any Peke owners out there?

I think the story of the Pekingese legend is cute. A lion and a marmaset fell in love. But the lion was too large. The lion went to the Budha and told him of his woes. The Buddha allowed the lion to shrink down to the size of the marmoset. And the Pekingese was the result!

Row Row Row Your Boat

Oh my gosh, is it ever going to end?? It's pouring like crazy here!

We do not need any more images like this!

At least it held off long enough for me to get in some community sales! There was a lot of people out hitting the sales today. I did pretty well, I'll save it for Monday's post!

We had the best dinner tonight! I made T.G.I Fridays Jack Daniel grill glaze and put it over chicken and stir fried green beans. Yum! That glaze is so good I could drink it. I should have taken pictures and posted it but I was in a hurry to get finished. See, I am petrified of lightening, so I try not to be in the kitchen. Silly, I know! I get it from my mother, she tends to be worse than me.

If there are any John Mayer fans reading this, head over here and sign this petition. Since Local-83 (JM's fan club) has been dissolved there are no concert pre sales for fans. So hopefully this petition will help. With a new album coming out and a new tour you know you want the good seats, so mosey over there and sign it!

Not a lot going on.....

We are getting ready to take on another house project. The plans are to turn our deck, which is off the dining room, into a screened in porch. I can't wait. The bugs in Georgia are so bad you can't enjoy sitting outside! I also can't wait to add a slamming screen door! I've always wanted one!

It will be nice to enjoy some lemonade without the unwanted mosquitos!

Grey's Anatomy starts back tonight! I'm going to veg out in front of the tv with lots of junk food! I hope it will be a good episode!

i Heart Faces Completely Candid

This is my first contribution to i Heart Faces. I'm certainly no photographer, but I love taking pictures! This is my friends daughter and her best friend. They didn't know I snuck up behind them to get their picture!

Check out i Heart Faces for more great shots!

Georgia Floods

The rain just will not let up! It's pouring as I type this. These are some pictures from the local news. I think four people are confirmed dead, one being a toddler that was swept away.

My son is on the road heading south out of Atlanta. Praying he makes home soon!

Heirlooms

Today is Marie's heirloom party! I have so many things that have been passed down and mean so much I didn't know what to include. I narrowed it down to some of my favorites. A lot of stuff that my dad gave me that really mean a lot are down in the cabin and it's raining, so maybe next time!

This grandfather clock belonged to my husbands mom and dad. His dad is no longer with us, so of course this has special meaning to him. I've often thought of painting it, but he doesn't seem to keen on the idea.

I love this little kitty tea pot. It's one of my favorites. It belonged to my grandmother on my dad's side.

This cute little bread bowl belonged to my Gran Gran, my mom's mother. I love how it says buns, biscuits and rolls.

Love this white picture from my grandmother.

And this old butter dish!

This green mirror was in a previous post. It was my father in laws. It's an Army issue mirror that he had hanging in the barracks.

Thanks Marie for hosting this. I love heirlooms!

Coleslaw and Kings

What a lazy weekend. I found a couple of yard sales, nothing great. I did find a really big flower pot for 3 bucks. I think I'll put some fall mums in it.

I feel like we cooked and ate all weekend. We cooked baby backs out on the wood burning grill. They were so good. My mixer was going a lot too!

I made Charlotte's Honey Bun Cake. It's right up there as one of my favorites. Although mine didn't turn out as pretty as hers! We had Houston's coleslaw with our ribs. Here are the ingredients.

In a small bowl whisk together 3/4 cup of mayo, 3 tablespoons white vinegar, 2 tablespoons sugar, and 1/8 tsp of salt.

In a large bowl add a head of chopped cabbage, 1/2 cup chopped green onions (only the green part), 1/2 cup of fresh parsley and 2 tablespoons of sweet pickle relish. Mix together.

Pour dressing over cabbage mixture, add 1/2 tsp of celery seed and mix well. Chill at least 4 hours, better if overnight.

Hope you like it!

Did anyone watch the VMA's? I just have to say that Kanye is a jerk! That was so rude what he did to Taylor Swift. Also, The Kings of Leon should have won. Love them!!

Fall Touches

I've been trying to add a few touches of fall around the house. It's still pretty hot here so it's hard to get in the mood. I'm going to wait until October to do the outside. I got some really tall corn stalks from my aunts garden this year that will look good by the front porch.

As you can see, I didn't have four matching pumpkins.

I wanted to use these tall candle holders somehow, so I threw a couple of pumpkins on there!

I made Corn Chip Tacos for dinner. They were so good!

I just browned 1 1/2 pounds of ground beef, drained, added a can of tomato paste, some water to thin it out and salt and sugar to taste. The sugar takes the twang out of the paste. I usually add enough to also give it a sweet taste. I like sweet and savory. Layer the corn chips in your plate, top with meat, cheese, pico de gallo, letttuce and sour cream. Fast and delicious!

I have a question. I haven't been taking pictures long, I'm still learning as I go. I have a Canon Rebel XS. I take the picture, it looks great, but when I resize it usually 640 x427, then change the html code so that they look bigger they seem to pixelate or blur. I followed instructions for big pictures over @ Between Naps on the Porch. (Thanks Susan) Great tips, I just don't know what I'm doing wrong. I'm such a novice.

I'm off to bed. My husband started a new job that requires him to get up 2 and half hours earlier. Guess who gets to make the coffee?

We Will Not Forget

This weeks Mclinky Blog Hop is Remembering Sept 11th. I was at home with the boys just starting our regular morning routine, getting breakfast ready. I always have the news on in the background. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. My husband called from work to see if I was watching. We were both speechless. It's a day that will always be etched in our memories. Politics aside our former president said it best.....

“Time is passing. Yet, for the United States of America, there will be no forgetting September the 11th. We will remember every rescuer who died in honor. We will remember every family that lives in grief. We will remember the fire and ash, the last phone calls, the funerals of the children. “

Weekend Sales

I had no intention of going to any yard sales this weekend. I was busy and just thought I would take a break. So of course I see tons of them on my way to the grocery store! I just had to stop at a couple.

These things look metal but they are plastic. I thought I would paint them and hang them over the doorway. I have a lot of projects adding up! These were only $1 for both.

You can't tell in the picture but these earrings have (fake) sparkly diamonds. They will be cute for the holidays.

I loved this bracelet. It's one long thingy that wraps around, with earrings to match!

I'm going to put this glass vase thing in the bathroom with soaps in it. $1

I've been feeling left out with all the posts about mirrors being transformed into chalkboards. Now I can make my own! 2 bucks!

Cute little napkins rings for 1 dollar!

Christmas pillow for 25 cents.

Halloween towel 25 cents

This is the biggie of the day, I can't believe I stuffed this in my 4 runner! This chair and ottoman was 10 dollars. I couldn't believe it I thought it was a mistake. It's in such great shape too. It's not the pattern I would have chosen if I had a choice, but the more I look at it, I love it. It's different, and quirky and homey! I may never slipcover it!
